Chee’s Chinese Cuisine - A Local Staple Chinese Restaurant in the Berkshires

Chee’s Chinese Cuisine in Adams is a historic landmark in the area as it has been there for 33 years. Adams is a town within Berkshire County of Massachusetts. Even though over time the Asian population has increased, and more Asian cuisine has been opening up in different areas of the Berkshires over time, Chee’s Restaurant still stands as the OG go-to-place for sit-down or takeaway for American Chinese food.

As an Asian-American who has been raised in a Chinese carry-out restaurant herself, I always check out other local family-owned businesses when I travel to different cities.

This restaurant and its food remind me of when I grew up in our carry-out restaurant. I remember the hustle and bustle of a busy lunchtime and dinner time. I remember high schoolers or other folks who needed a part-time job and helped my family at the front desk, taking orders and working the cash register. I remember the phone ringing nonstop and knowing the customer’s names because half of the town orders your food on a weekly basis. And most importantly, I remember the smoky smell infused in fried rice because of the extra-large woks with humongous fires beneath them.

Chee’s Chinese Cuisine – BBQ Pork Fried Rice

At Chee’s Chinese Cuisine, their BBQ pork fried rice is fricken delicious and on point. They cook the Chinese BBQ pork, or Char Siu, in a traditional Cantonese traditional method by marinading the Chinese BBQ pork in a sweet BBQ sauce and then roasted in a covered oven or over a fire. I love asking them for a side of hot chili oil (which they give free of charge), and I add mix some in my fried rice… yummm, I love it a bit spicy.

Chee’s Chinese Cuisine – Favorite Dishes

My favorite dishes from Chee’s are the Beef and Broccoli and Chef’s Chicken (also known as General Tso’s). Their prices are phenomenal, just like my dad’s, super affordable and you get a lot of food that can be eaten during two separate times as leftover. If you can, definitely try to get their lunch specials – it is seriously a bang for your buck! With these prices, you don’t have to treat Chinese food as a special occasion, and you can become a regular.

Foodie tip: Their egg rolls are legit, large, handmade, never frozen. It doesn’t come with any “dipping sauce” like plum sauce, so I ask for a side of sweet and sour sauce that I use to dip my egg roll in!

Their soups are accurately priced at $3 each. I get either the Egg Drop Soup or Hot and Sour Soup. I love how their Egg Drop Soup is full of chicken broth flavor with lots of eggs. It doesn’t taste flavorless and it has some extra mushrooms and chopped green onions that give a refreshing cut through the earthy broth.

The restaurant is located on the main road with two temporary parking spots up front to pick up your carry-out order. If you’d like to sit down and eat, which they have plenty of tables to offer as a full restaurant, there is a large parking lot behind the building.

On the side of the restaurant, there is a fun mural to take a picture with if you are like us and are waiting outside the door for them to open!
